The Pirelli Skyscraper is located in Piazza Duca D'Aosta in Milan, where the Central Station also stands. It was built between 1956 and 1960 to a design by Gio Ponti, Pier Luigi Nervi, Fornaroli, Rosselli, Valtolina and Dell'Orto. It is an important architectural work, typical of Italian Rationalism; with its 127 meters in height it is one of the tallest reinforced concrete buildings in the world. It is one of the most famous symbols of Milan and is the tallest skyscraper in Italy.[citation needed]
Originally the building was constructed to house the offices of the famous Italian tire company Pirelli, but later the skyscraper was purchased by the Region of Lombardy to make it its main headquarters.
