Molfetta is a municipality in the province of Bari, a coastal town about 25 km from the provincial capital. The old nucleus known as the Island of Sant'Andrea forms the first urban core around the 3rd century and is characterised by a singular herringbone layout: here stands the Duomo, the largest church with domes on axis of Puglian Romanesque, crowned by two bell towers, built between the 11th and 12th century. Also in the old centre is the baroque church of San Pietro, erected on a previous Romanesque church. Note the walls towards the land, which have kept their layout. Just outside the walls stands the grandiose cathedral dedicated to the Assumption, a former Jesuit convent, where the bones of the city's patron Saint Conrad are kept, with a silver and gold bust of the Neapolitan school. Of particular note is the large painting by the Molfetta-born Corrado Giaquinto.
It is easily reachable from the SS16bis, a fast and flowing road.
