The chain runs along the border between Abruzzo, the Marche and Lazio, straddling the provinces of L'Aquila, Teramo, Ascoli Piceno and Rieti, for a total length of 24 km.
The Laga chain is separated from the Gran Sasso chain by the striking narrow valley of the Vomano river, which culminates upstream at the Passo delle Capannelle and Lake Campotosto.
In the valley, today crossed by the Statale 80 road, a branch of the ancient Via Cecilia once ran, of which traces have been found. It's a little-known but evocative tourist route. A few steps away are villages inhabited by dozens of people in summer and the "metropolis" of Amatrice with its promenade street. Ideal for an alternative holiday far from the usual destinations
