A few hours in a wonderful city are not enough to savour the enchantment created by the incredible peculiarities of this architectural marvel. True, these are just rhetorical words, but they serve to underline the feeling I had when I entered the city on the legendary vaporetto. True, Venice has its flaws, and I — may its inhabitants forgive me — would never live there: the damp, the risk of acqua alta, the city being not very 'practical'..
but its palaces so finely 'chiselled', its little alleys, are enough to give everyone some pleasure, even if only for a few hours, taking care to spend as little as possible because Venice is conceived for the use and consumption of the rich tourist in search of 1950s souvenirs and not for the 21st-century globetrotter who perhaps doesn't have much money but has a desire to understand and learn — oh well! Better a few hours than never, and anyway you can always come back, can't you?
