Day 121 Jul 2006

That said, I'm already on vacation.. Luca got hurt on June 20th.. and after spending 2 weeks between home and office and a whole lot of work, I managed to join him in San Benedetto, leaving a bit early like that..

Knee check-ups every morning and free afternoons.. to explore the Marche region.

Day 222 Jul 2006

And yes... the palm riviera... a beautiful seafront lined with splendid palms connects San Benedetto to Grottammare.

The seafront is characterized by lots of beach chalets on the sea, all very well equipped to offer comfort and excellent services for the customer.

TO VISIT IN SAN BENEDETTO DEL TRONTO

The Church of S. Francesco (13th-15th cent.) - The A. Capriotti Fish Museum with Aquarium - The Amphora Museum From the highway heading towards Grottamare you find the terrace over the Sea, ideal for photographing San Benedetto Del Tronto EVENTS IN SAN BENEDETTO DEL TRONTO The last Sunday of July: Feast of the Madonna della Marina with a procession of boats and beautiful fireworks over the sea.

Of particular beauty is GROTTAMARE ALTA

a very special little village with its churches, its very few inhabitants, its little streets and balconies that open onto the sea, its houses still made of stone...

From the highway you can admire the beauty of the "village leaning" above the tunnel... overlooking the sea,

I recommend it to anyone who loves seeing little villages still as they once were.. without noise and without music but only with the sound of the wind, of pots in the kitchen, and with the light on the sea that illuminates it with beauty.

Torre di Palme

This little village too, anchored up high, dominates the coast. Of particular beauty are the balconies over the sea and the many churches

To visit

Church of S. Maria a Mare Church of S. Agostino ((patron saint) Palazzo dei Priori Church of S. Giovanni Battista Piazzale della Rocca Piazza Belvedere ((balcony overlooking the sea))

to get there: A14 exit Fermo - P.S. Giorgio turn right towards Pescara; after 200 m sign on the right for Torre di Palme.

Ascoli Piceno

A monumental city, whose historic center is entirely built in travertine, marble extracted from the nearby quarries, its center is the Renaissance Piazza del Popolo, where the Palazzo dei Capitani and the church of San Francesco stand.

In Piazza Arringo rises the Cathedral of Sant'Emidio, patron saint of the city.

Worthy of note are the Roman Bridge near Porta Solestà, which can be visited inside, the Fortezza Pia, the church of Sant'Agostino (currently under restoration), the Palazzetto Longobardo, one of the few surviving towers among the dozens that appear in medieval chronicles.

the city of 100 towers, MEDIEVAL AND EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL..

The city is in many ways tied to religious and civic traditions and the main city events revolve around the feast of its patron saint Sant'Emidio on August 5th.

On the first Sunday of August a solemn historical parade is held in Renaissance costumes with over nine hundred participants (which include the city authorities, Mayor included), at the end of which the chivalric tournament of the Quintana takes place, based on ancient 14th-century statutes and held since 1955 without interruption. Very interesting, for its playful and popular character, is the Carnival in the Piazza, with the participation of citizens, both in groups and on floats (Carnival Sunday and Tuesday).
