This time I join some university friends who have a conference in Erice. Last year we hadn't had time to visit this town perched on a mountain 700 metres above the sea of Trapani. The flight to Palermo goes well and after a lunch stop (needless to say, excellent grilled swordfish in a little place in the centre) they come to pick us up with a minibus for Erice. What a marvel this town is, with its alleys, its streets, its historic buildings, its castle. From every side you feel suspended in the sky amid breathtaking views. Light, clean, well-ventilated air, we coped well with the heat that instead oppressed Trapani. From a little shop in the centre I brought back almond paste to make the famous almond milk, almond sweets, little jars of all kinds for bruschetta, for dressing pasta etc… which today are only a memory!!
