Clearly I didn't take a trip lasting eight years! I found myself in two towns with similar names on two different dates!! Montecatini Terme is not a place for old people as some cynic might be led to believe. The population is not very young (I'm talking about the tourist population) but there is really no shortage of entertainment for everyone! There is a little market of trousseau items near the spa for romantic traditionalists, plenty of shops, Art Nouveau villas and luxurious hotels for the most demanding, and in the evening piano-bar concerts in the square. Prices are a bit high, including entry to the spa. A different story is the other Montecatini, the one in the Val di Cecina, 'encountered' while driving to the sea towards Bibbona, starting from Siena.
First a passage through Volterra, a town of Etruscan origin, then a stop at the Old River bar in Montecatini Val di Cecina where we eat a good chocolate cake and have a hearty breakfast for 9.08 euros, and finally, after passing this town that was unknown to me until that Sunday, we continue towards other adventures....
