On the way back from abroad we landed at Ventimiglia. I must say I wasn't convinced of the possible beauty of this little town, famous basically for being on the border, but once I visited it I changed my mind! Outside there are the terraced cultivations already seen in Spain and encountered elsewhere too, but the sea is beautiful, the landscapes are beautiful, the beach is beautiful... Sanremo, on the other hand, disappointed me a little. Perhaps because Ferragosto had passed, but there were very few people around; the casino (I didn't go in, I just stopped to watch the slot machines "stormed" by the dreamers) didn't seem as imposing as on television or in photos, and the Russian church is small, certainly smaller than the one in my city, Bari. The station, by contrast, is very large, worthy of a city of real standing.
Much nicer, however, is Bordighera and all the little towns and villages encountered along this stretch of the Riviera, whatever the weather...
