These are of course two separate trips, both in the north of Puglia. The road towards the Gargano is long and complex. The SS16 bis and then you have to take the SS89 (known as the Garganica) and another provincial road. The two roads in question are steep, winding and also narrow, and for anyone with little experience of hairpin bends, like us Puglians from the plains, the driving is rather demanding. Vieste is a very beautiful little town with a splendid sea and a lovely contrast between the blue of the sky and the sea and the white of the houses and the little alleys. San Giovanni Rotondo, on the other hand, is very famous for the sanctuary where the remains of Padre Pio of Pietrelcina rest, for the friary and for the hospital built by Padre Pio, imposing both in its construction and in its work.
Finally Margherita, the object of the second trip, more easily reachable thanks to the SS16 bis, not far from the regional capital (about 67 km), famous for its salt pans, its spa and its fine-sand beach. I haven't been to the Gargano since 1991; I've been to Margherita often and went back three years ago; the photos in fact date from that period.
