a holiday... full of kilometres... full of splendid beaches, rocks, plants and very kind people.. see you soon Sardinia!!
800 km is a lot when you think we did them in just 5 days
the stays, as well as the flight and itinerary, were all organised by me.. Selene Thanks to good research skills I managed to book 3 excellent hotel facilities the first night in Quartu Sant'elena (CA) at the SETAR **** ((EXCELLENT FACILITY))) the second in Arbatax at the Spiedo d'Ogliastra *** ((GOOD FACILITY REOPENED A FEW DAYS AGO AFTER AN EXCELLENT RENOVATION)) the third, fourth and fifth in Olbia at the Melia Resort ***** (((FANTASTIC))))
spending less than 24 euros a night per person..
Day 113 Apr 2006
we're off...
We depart at 1240 from Linate.. right on time.. Strange.. for Alitalia.. heading to Cagliari!!! We decided to book the car directly from Milan with Euro rent, a nice comfortable and spacious Peugeot 307.. that will accompany us throughout our trip. First stop, drop off the suitcases.. the problem will be the GPS.. in Sardinia it shows no sign of life.. don't takeeeee finally after an hour of traffic.. we reach our first hotel, the Setar in Quartu Sant'Elena, very nice, we're the only Italian family.. most are German.. First stop.. reach two family friends at their new house.. facing Baia Azzurra, a beautiful beach.. naturally deserted today.. Dinner at the Aquarium restaurant near Torre delle Stelle -- very very nice, excellent dinner!!

we leave our second hotel LO SPIEDO D'OGLIASTRA heading north of Sardinia.. but to get to Olbia there are still many km to go.. First stop Lido di Orri and then Santa Maria Navarrese hoping for the boat tour.. but not a shadow of tourists... so for only 4 people they won't even start the engine..:(( bad day.. Santa Maria Navarrese is a small seaside resort, municipality of Baunei, a few km from Tortolì – Arbatax. It's renowned for its seafront on La Centrale beach, characterized by a Saracen Tower. Beaches to visit are the beautiful Cala Goloritzè, Cala Mariolu, Cala Sisine and Cala Luna, reachable on foot or by boat daily ((practically only in August... ))
lunch at Baunei with the local specialties.. fava beans and sandwiches with warm slices of pork.. so good!!! so good!!!

Day 517 Apr 2006
Palau * la Maddalena * Caprera * Santa Teresa di Gallura
Today the sky started acting up, it's very cloudy.. we leave after a healthy breakfast.. for Palau to visit La Maddalena Caprera
The most beautiful beaches of La Maddalena are the following and all deserve at least a visit. SPALMATORE - Fine sand. Crowded in August. MONTI D'A RENA - Coarse sand. A convenient and breezy spot. Recommended BASSA TRINITA - 400 m from the bus terminus for Case Ornano, the second bay. PORTO MASSIMO - Cala Lunga is beautiful. GIARDINELLI - Go to Moneta and turn left, then follow the signs for Giardinelli and "Testa di Polpo". A series of absolutely unmissable little coves, especially the "Testa". PUNTA TEGGE - A small beach and convenient flat rocks.
The best of Caprera: SPIAGGIA DEL RELITTO - On Caprera, at the southern tip (on Isola Rossa, which is actually a peninsula). Reachable only by car, motorcycle or mountain bike after a few kilometers of dirt road. It's worth it. On the shore, the wreck of a coal ship has towered for years. CALA GARIBALDI - On Caprera, to the right after the Moneta bridge. TAHITI - Reachable only by sea or from the very steep and strenuous Caprera trail. CALA BRIGANTINA - On Caprera. From the sea or - with no small difficulty - from land. I DUE MARI - On the way to the Spiaggia del Relitto you pass through this narrow isthmus between Caprera and Isola Rossa. MUST-SEE: THE GARIBALDI COMPENDIUM
FROM PALAU TO SANTA TERESA DI GALLURA
Monti D'Arena
Day 618 Apr 2006
destinazione... MILANO
this vacation too has come to an end.. we'll be left with a beautiful memory, I think very different from the usual summer tourist.. who stays to see only the Costa Smeralda... we crossed it for 800 km among curves, mountains, plants, cows, little goats, donkeys and horses.. beaches and local people...
