Conversano is about 30 km from Bari, set on a hill, and has had a well-developed nightlife for years: bars, restaurants and venues liven up the town's evenings, which are always teeming with people from the neighbouring villages as well as from the city. It's easily reached both by public transport (Ferrovie Sud Est) and on the SS16. Thanks to its hilltop position it also has a suitably mild climate, which draws visitors especially on hot summer evenings. Nearby lies a charming countryside of centuries-old olive trees and old farm estates (today turned into well-equipped, welcoming agriturismos). Definitely an interesting destination for a Sunday outing! Taking the SS16 from Bari, we turned off towards the Casello Cavuzzi area, which belongs to the territory of Polignano, and there we discovered an old farm estate and a beautiful view not yet overrun by mass tourism.
From there we took the turn-off for Conversano and wandered along the alleys of the old town, enjoying the "passeggio" in the square as well. The Romanesque cathedral is beautiful. Worth noting that the local museum holds many works by the seventeenth-century painter Paolo Finoglio. Finally, a pizza in one of the places on Piazza Terrarossa, run by a group of young people and also a venue for exhibitions by local artists. We really had a lovely Sunday!
