San Vito is a spot overlooking the sea near Polignano. The name comes from the patron saint of Polignano, and it's precisely from this hamlet that the procession dedicated to the Saint sets off in June. It's unknown to those who don't live in Puglia and, to tell the truth, even to the people of Puglia themselves, but it's absolutely worth stopping by. From the SS16 Adriatica it's enough to follow the signs and you easily reach the monastery, built by the Venetians around 1700 and now practically abandoned. The little church is open only on feast days, but in any case there's a restaurant-bar inside the abbey that can wonderfully meet a tourist's needs, not to mention the other places in the immediate vicinity. What's more, the sea is clean and clear, a real invitation, even though our walk in question was taken on a mid-winter afternoon...
