2 Part of the Trip EVIA - ATHENS

Day 11 Jun 2009

Athens

01 June 2009 …back to Athens! Arriving in Rafina we take the bus to reach the airport. You thought our tour was over... no no... We take the brand-new metro and in less than 15 minutes we reach the centre of the Hellenic city. We easily find the hotel we booked, Hotel Areos in Athens. A brand-new and beautiful hotel. Our tour begins from Plaka, the central area of Athens and the oldest part of the city, just think that it has been inhabited for almost 7000 years! It is also the most touristy area of Athens; among its little streets are hidden monuments, palaces and Byzantine churches.

We get on board a little tourist train and travel through the whole centre of Athens from which you can see many attractions, such as the Roman amphitheatre and the majestic Acropolis. Right in one of the streets crowded with tourists with a breathtaking view of the illuminated Acropolis we decide to have dinner.

Day 22 Jun 2009

Visit to the Acropolis

June 2, 2009 And we're off... super pumped for a very long walk that will give us so many emotions. Once inside the Acropolis we admire • Temple of Herodes Atticus • Temple of Dionysus • Odeon of Herodes • Propylaea of the Acropolis • Erechtheion of the Acropolis • Parthenon • Temple of Hephaestus • Byzantine Church • and the Athens Observatory

Walking and walking we reach the top of the Acropolis. The Acropolis, from the Greek "high city," is one of the most famous monuments in the world and the most important testimony of ancient Greek civilization. Fascinating and majestic.. With a panoramic view over the city of Athens

At the foot of the Acropolis stretches Plaka, and in the background you can see the remains of the gigantic Temple of Zeus and the Stadium of Olympia. We stop at the Museum of the Agora, archaeological finds, coins, amphorae, all the way to the immense statues. Opposite stands the "small" votive temple dedicated to Athena Nike, goddess of victory, which commemorates Athens' victory over the Persians.

Tired from the grueling walk that lasted about 3 hours, after having lunch at the Soho restaurant in Plaka, we head back out around Athens.

We take the metro and get off at Syntagma, home of the square of the same name and the parliament. The "changing of the guard" by the Evzones is interesting, soldiers with a particular uniform as well as their strange march.

For the evening we decide to make a stop in Kerameikos. Definitely the most youthful area of Athens. Among the many venues you can have a nice aperitivo and dinner

Day 33 Jun 2009

Once the suitcases are packed and breakfast is done, we head to the airport.

The Easy Jet flight to Malpensa awaits us.

All that's left to say is... it was a beautiful experience, Greece has certainly stayed in our hearts.. Evia, splendid and still untouched by tourism, is just the way we like it.. Athens, what can we say, it's still a city and after 3 days of absolute tranquility in Evia it has quite an effect. It's definitely a unique city that delivers strong emotions between history and culture.

Until the next trip Luca & Selene
