My first holiday as a single woman after a six-year relationship....and it's right here...in Mykonos.....a Greek island that, honestly, I had never really considered that much....I mean...it's not that I went because everyone was going...it was a decision we made...inspired by the film CHE NE SARÀ DI NOI...those evergreen landscapes...little white houses with blue doors and windows...
the colour of Greece is white and blue....and it really is like that...not to mention its sea...truly transparent, clean and blue! There were six of us and we had a really great time....Mykonos is known as the island of gay transgression but if I'm to tell you the truth I saw plenty of ordinary people...gays are there of course...but there's a district and beaches they frequent with bars and restaurants frequented by them...but then I mean...it's not as if meeting them around bothers you...they're people like us! We booked a guesthouse through an agency...this guesthouse was the typical little Greek house...the owners lived on the floor below and upstairs there were 6 or 7 rooms that they rented out....we were in the district called Little Venice (Piccola Venezia) because they say it resembles our city a bit...now...I've never been to Venice...but I didn't see all that much resemblance!!!
Young people who go to Mykonos manage to find many kinds of entertainment....on various beaches people start dancing around 6 for the aperitivo (a real beach party with dj, music, speakers and drinks), then there are drinks in the many bars in the centre and then on to the many clubs, where however it's not worth going before 3-4 in the morning because there's nobody there! You can decide for yourself what time to go dancing! Our typical day was...wake up around midday....breakfast and beach.....then around 5 lunch in one of the many lovely little places on the beach that served first courses, second courses and anything else at any hour....then around 7 aperitivo and dancing (if we were on a beach that allowed it) and then around 9-10 home to shower......around half past midnight we'd go out and have dinner and then drinks in one of the many little bars in the centre and then maybe danci
ng! I say maybe because honestly there are so many things to do around too that you don't need to go dancing every night (where the ticket anyway always costs around 30 euros)....we went only a couple of times....once to Cavo Paradiso, which is the most famous club in Mykonos, where we made it to ten in the morning (and then breakfast and the sea, without going back to the hotel!!!) and another at another one whose name escapes me where that evening Bob Sinclair was playing....the other evenings we spent drinking in the centre....we found some little bars that made rum and pear at a very low price....we'd do a bit of a bar crawl there and then almost always end up at the Skandinavian Bar....a place I find very nice where there was music and so we could dance without paying, and then, at most, upstairs there was a club if we wanted to go....what amazes me is how we managed to find this pla
ce every night in the state we were in....I mean....after 4 or 5 rum and pears and given that the little streets were all more or less alike we did well!!! In short...I recommend everyone to go....not only groups of friends...but couples too....the nightlife is there and there's every kind...you can choose what kind of evening to have and know that wherever you go there'll be plenty of people....besides, the beaches and nature are...let's say unexpected! See you next time!
