The story

(Distance from home 2486 km). A strange place, Gibraltar, but in its own way unique and disorienting. Going from tapas to fish&chips, from sangria to beer, from Spanish to English by crossing a border line that encloses a tiny area. Once we've done the entry formalities (crossing the border on foot wastes less time) you find yourself on the airport runway! The city is full of English pubs and fish & chips, which to me feels out of place. The most interesting part is certainly the Rock, from which you enjoy a breathtaking panorama over the sea in the company of the macaques, who as long as they are there will see the queen watch over this strip of land (or so they say). There are other small states within a state, but what strikes you about this one is that crossing the frontier changes absolutely everything, sharply. Strange Gibraltar.
