The story

2 intense days but it was worth it. On the first day the West part: Gendarmenmarkt: one of the most beautiful squares in Berlin; an unforgettable walk along Unter Den Linden (Under the Lindens) to reach the Brandenburg Gate; a visit with a bit of a queue to the Bundestag and the Reichstag; passing by the Holocaust memorial you reach Potsdamer Platz, beautiful especially in the evening at the Sony Center. Nearby you can see a part of the old Wall at Niederkirchnerstraße where you can visit the Topography of Terror museum a few metres from Checkpoint Charlie. On the second day the East part. Much more fascinating and ancient.

Walking along Unter Den Linden you arrive in front of the Humboldt University, where Marx studied; Babelplatz, where Hitler had all the books burned; the Museum Island on the Spree (Museumsinsel, Berliner Dom, the beautiful Berlin Cathedral, the Palast der Republik, the Palace of the Republic with its magnificent copper-coloured glass facade, the palace of the former Staatsrat, the former Council of State, and the Library of the municipal archives, near Fischerinsel); you then arrive at Alexanderplatz. From Alexanderplatz, passing through Schloßplatz (statues of Marx and Engels) to the St Nicholas quarter (Nikolaiviertel). The next day, before departure, a visit to the famous Zoo on the Tiergarten.
