Les Deux Alpes: how to celebrate the new millennium

The new millennium is beginning, so we have to celebrate in style... With the whole group of friends we decide to go and spend the ski week at Les Deux Alpes. We go to a travel agency and decide to take an apartment... At last the 26th of December arrives; we decide to leave early given the many kilometres to cover... the weather wasn't great and snow was forecast... We reached the Italy-France border and there was a snowstorm... they weren't letting you cross the Col du Lautaret because of poor visibility... so we have to wait for it to stop... I don't remember exactly how long we waited, then finally in the early afternoon the sign appears: 'ouverte' (open)... ok, off we go again... what a terrible experience... the roads were filthy and every 2 or 3 km we had to stop to clear the snow off the car... we had to fit snow chains...

in short, the truth is we were afraid we'd never get out of that pass... anyway, with a lot of luck and after many hours we managed to reach the village... I guarantee you that in my life I had never seen so much snow... The apartments were nice and they were right on the slopes... but it wasn't a good trip... too cold... the ski slopes were too difficult for a skier like me... some impassable because of too much snow... We saw the New Year's Eve torchlit descent on the snow and it was very emotional... then we went into the pool with warm water outdoors... we skated on the ice... in short, the fun wasn't lacking, only perhaps because it had started so badly that I don't have a good memory of it... maybe if I go back I'll have different memories.
