We've always snubbed Corsica because it's just a stone's throw from us... Living in Genoa it really seemed too CONVENIENT!! Then in May our little girl was born and at barely 4 months old, where could we take her? And so we finally landed in Bastia. We shoot all the way down the coast and finally reach the South.. at Porto Vecchio... at our accommodation.. Actually we're located in a residence in Santa Giulia, with a breathtaking view over the bay, not exactly a stone's throw from the sea, but that's how the residences are there, they protect privacy, so no terraced bungalows on the beach..
and in a way that's better!! Santa Giulia is something to see with your own eyes, it can't be described! When my travel agency sold me the package claiming it was like being in the Caribbean, I thought they were off their heads, but damn were they right!!!! the only flaw is that the sea water is a bit cold, but I don't know whether that's due to the month (late September) or is a characteristic. Porto Vecchio is pretty and well kept, but if you want to be left open-mouthed you absolutely must see Bonifacio!! A fortress city lying on a rocky ridge sheer above the sea.. spectacular!! Parking is paid and if you arrive in the late morning you risk having to circle around quite a while before parking.. Another trip not to be missed is the archaeological site of Filitosa; you'll be struck by that otherworldly atmosphere that hangs all around...
Returning to practical information, I recommend doing your shopping in the big supermarkets - there are a couple in the area; as for meals at the restaurant... well, everything can be said except that they're cheap... to give an example, 2 takeaway margherita pizzas... we paid 18 EURO for them!!! And I assure you they weren't mistaken!!
