This Sunday it's the Camargue's turn!!! Stefy has come to visit us, so these days it's she who decides the destination of the various trips to do locally: today she chose the Camargue. Guidebook in hand, off we go, destination Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, the first town you come across in the Camargue coming from Arles.
The road that descends from Arles towards the sea immediately shows you the kind of landscape: fields of flowers, marshy areas covered with tall reeds swaying in the wind and lots and lots of horses and bulls roaming free!! Very picturesque! Once in the town (famous for being a meeting place for the gypsies) we head straight to the seafront to see the famous beaches....not bad at all!! The trip continues inside the town along the narrow streets full of all sorts of shops...the only annoyance is the gypsies who keep trying to "give you" little medals so as then to get money in exchange.
We therefore decide to carry on to the other Camargue town, the famous Aigues-Mortes! On arrival, about 30 KM, Aigues immediately shows off its imposing medieval walls, wonderfully preserved; you enter through the drawbridge and the town at once presents itself as a magnificent, extremely well-preserved little city (much more beautiful and interesting than Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer!!!) with lovely shops and art galleries. We stop in the main square to eat in a little Spanish restaurant (the proximity to Spain makes itself felt) to recharge our energies and then continue visiting the town. In the late afternoon, after a bit of varied shopping (artisan biscuits and summer clothing), we decide to head back to Aix en Provence. Even today Provence has been generous with beautiful landscapes and lovely towns; wonderful, the south of France!! Bye max
