From the Roya valley up to the height of Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende, you climb a narrow road as far as the lake of Mesches; there you leave the car and walk the dirt track and the path to the refuge, about 3 hours on foot; there you can bivouac with a tent, or sleep at the refuge (better to book "refuge de merveilles"). From here you can take in a beautiful view towards the bottom of the valley, especially at dawn. To reach the rock art sites just follow the signs, and there is a lot of supervision by the park wardens, who advise on the route to take. you can follow the path up to almost 3000 m. and then descend over the pass, coming back to the car park. This is the Vallée des Merveilles, a very beautiful and welcoming place, not only for expert mountaineers but also for those who have good legs for walking, and a good will to use them. ventoenuvole
