We set off with a yearning for a bit of sea. Destination the French Riviera. We stay in Frejus in a seafront hotel. First day splendid, so we visit the town of Frejus with its ancient abbey, then St Raphael, where we experience the thrill of an excellent “bourride” at the port. A long walk along the beautiful seaside promenade of the two towns, attached to one another. We decide for the next day an excursion towards the Verdon Gorge, but the weather on waking is awful, so we decide to wander around the area a bit. St Tropez is beautiful even in the rain, the village of Gassin is pleasant: the prices a little less so. At the port of St Tropez we slip into a Créperie, where we make friends with a Parisian couple, but leave 50 euros for two crêpes and a glass of cider. The third day we visit Grasse and St Paul de Vence. The fourth we stop in Liguria (at Varigotti) for a good fish meal.
The weather has turned good, windy but splendid. A shame we are on the way home!!
