Vienna is a very pleasant city, clean, and extremely efficient when it comes to public transport (the metro comes every 5 minutes!). A very beautiful cathedral, and the centre (the Innere Stadt) is all very pleasant. You absolutely must try the käsekrainer sausages, bought from the street kiosks: they are sausages with cheese inside, and eaten like a hot dog they are a delight. As for museums, the main ones are the Hofburg, with the Hapsburg treasures (crowns, the Lance of Longinus...), Schönbrunn (a little way out, but it was the Hapsburgs' summer residence), and on Albertinaplatz there are paintings by Picasso. Disappointing, in my view, were the Mozart and Freud house museums. There's nothing there but photographed documents and photos. Since they were lived-in houses, you'd expect to find objects from their time, but that's not the case.
There are many wine bars with decent wine, and finally the city is full of cafés where people go to have a hot chocolate or the legendary Sacher. To try it properly, go first to Demel, then to the Hotel Sacher and finally to Aida!
