We had long planned to go to Vienna to stay with friends who had been our guests in the past. From the seaside we called to ask how things were, since the TV was talking about floods in Vienna, Dresden and elsewhere. In Vienna there were no problems. The Danube was a bit high, but the city was untouched. We set off, leaving behind a glorious sun, and plunged into the journey. First stop after Tarvisio, on an Austrian lake (Wörthersee). The next day, Vienna. It rained, the Danube had flooded all the bars and restaurants along its banks, but the city still welcomed us in the splendour of its churches and palaces. One day we went as far as Bratislava and another to Lake Neusiedl, from which you begin to glimpse the Hungarian plain. Another day we devoted to Eisenstadt and its castle.
We said goodbye to Vienna with a breakfast of Sachertorte in the most famous (and expensive) pastry shop of the old town, but it was worth it!
