03. 02. 2008 Panama City (PANAMA) [Nick]: Lying back in my business class seat... After the stopover in the Panamanian capital we board, but something's wrong... Our seat is already taken. In airline jargon: "Double Seating" (they'd assigned the same seat to two people); we talk to the hostess and she asks us to wait until everyone has taken their seat, we'll have to make do a little! Off to a great start! Meanwhile Mark is chatting with a very pretty stewardess... Boarding ends and they give us two seats right where there's a colony of holidaymakers making a racket... Still going great! We settle in, aware that it'll be a tough return flight, when suddenly the stewardess Mark was talking to earlier comes over and asks if we'd like to move to business class to make up for the disturbance they caused us...
Eleven hours in business! Wow! Like hawks we swoop down onto our new little seats, which we soon turn into a proper bed while the steward hands us a glass of champagne... What a sight: a lie-flat bed, a personal TV, all sorts of little gadgets, snacks and drinks at any time and a fish-based dinner... The flight goes by very quickly... I savour my last moments in business... And to think we ended up there because we're in the military; the pilot of our aircraft is one of our own... So it's not always bad luck doing our job? At first I felt a bit out of place, I wasn't used to all that luxury and all that attention. I understood even more what Maylediz and her cousin felt that day at the Hilton with us, and I felt even prouder that, together with Nick, I'd made it possible. Gracias Colombia
