The story

17 March Pointe-a-Pitre (GUADELOUPE)

This time we turn the page completely!

We leave, temporarily, the backpacks at home and set off from Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe, aboard a lush and elegant ship to discover the old Dutch Antilles!

The first impression of this French territory in the Caribbean is very similar to the one felt in Nouméa, New Caledonia.

It feels strange to see in such remote and distant places cars with French number plates, to pay in euros, to use only the identity card, to see people around with the usual baguette under their arm and the various French flags waving almost everywhere. It is late evening when, gently, this majestic ship sets sail leaving behind the small Guadeloupean port...

19 March Willemstad (CURAÇAO)

It is dawn, we open the curtain of our lovely room and here it is: land! The island of Curaçao begins to materialise before our eyes!

I am very excited and can't wait to go ashore and take Nora, Sophie and Ettore to discover this first Caribbean island.

We were six, carefree and rested, around the streets of Copenhagen... same team but now we are nine and stronger than before!

Willemstad is the capital of Curaçao, a territory that is still part of the Netherlands.

The historic centre consists of four districts: Punda (established in 1634 after the Dutch took the island from Spain), Otrobanda (the city's cultural centre), Scharloo and Pietermaai.

Willemstad, with its colourful colonial architecture and the harbour entrance, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We cross the Queen Emma Bridge just in time because a small yacht is approaching and so the bridge is opened while passers-by hurry as best they can to avoid being stuck on it... but no problem, the (free) ferries immediately come into play, taking you from one bank to the other in 4 minutes!
