The story

At Malpensa airport the airline Lauda Air is waiting to take us to the land of the Maya. The flight lasts almost 10 hours and we arrive at the small airport of Cancun towards evening.. The SPRINTOURS minibus takes us to our SPRINCLUB ALLEGRO resort..Along the way we immediately make friends with Elvira, Stefano and Cristiano, who will keep us company for the whole holiday. The village, compared with others in the hotel zone, is simple, but nice...The guide welcomes us and explains the tours...we book only the one for Chichen Itza..the others we decide to arrange ourselves...and we do well..because by coach it's cheap and very convenient... Our little house is surrounded by greenery..and you just cross the pool and the sea welcomes you with a wonderful blue, especially when the sun comes out....

Our holiday lasts only a week so we start with CANCUN; the town is lovely...very touristy..the weather that day wasn't good and we even saw a waterspout coming in from the sea... On the third day we go to TULUM; the view is breathtaking and it's unforgettable to see the Maya ruins plunging into the sea... The heat these days is truly tremendous, so it's a must to drink a PINA COLADA and take a dip in the sea or the pool.. On the fourth day we go to the X-CARET park, and have one of the best experiences of our lives: swimming with dolphins..touching them up close and watching them leap above our heads was extraordinary. In the evening we take a taxi and go for a wander with our friends along 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen..a lovely little town full of folklore and colour...

Finally the day arrives to visit the most famous Maya archaeological site in the YUCATAN: CHICHEN ITZA...It feels like stepping back in time: the Castillo, the observatory and the temple of the warriors are well preserved, as is the ball game...centuries have passed but time seems to have stood still.. Climbing the Castillo is a bit dangerous but I go up anyway and the view from up there is stunning... We then visit VALLADOLID with its lovely church and on the way back we plunge into the freezing water of a CENOTE... It was a really lovely holiday and on the last two days we enjoy the sea... One thing I'll never forget about Mexico is the colours, the hammocks among the houses, its straight, straight streets and those children who knocked on the minibus to be given a few coins....
