Cozumel
After recharging our batteries, we set off again to discover new and wonderful places. Today, in fact, we decide to go to ISLA COZUMEL. After about an hour of travel by local bus and colectivo, we arrive at the port of Playa del Carmen where we board a hydrofoil bound for Cozumel. On our arrival, as usual, numerous local "tour operators" are waiting for us, offering boat excursions to visit the island's seabeds. After haggling for a long time with one of them, we get on board a very simple boat with a sheet of plexiglass inside to view the seabed during the crossing. Once we set sail, we make 3 stops in 3 different spots on the island. In our opinion, nothing compared to the snorkelling we did at Isla Mujeres. Definitely better and fantastic.
Blue water and seabeds, fish of any size and colour, and among the endless photos taken underwater I even managed to capture a barracuda and a lobster, a fun and a beauty honestly never seen before, all for about 3 hours. If you come to these parts you cannot miss seabeds like these! Back at the port, very happy with the morning we spent, we take a stroll around the town, also deciding to eat at one of the countless bars you will find. Right afterwards we go looking for some scooter to rent.
The island is much bigger than Isla Mujeres, so much so that you can rent both scooters and cars with the characteristic Mexican Beetle! To be honest, choosing the scooter is something I recommend avoiding, since to go around the island it takes roughly 2 hours and there isn't that much to see; in fact, when you find yourself on the other shore, thus in total "open sea," the wind is so strong that at certain moments we were incredibly scared because, with two of us on one scooter, I had an absurd struggle to steer and control it. One thing is certain: we will never do an experience like that again.
In the meantime, however, we escaped a powerful downpour that hit the town; in fact, when we returned to the port area the streets were practically flooded and we didn't get even a drop of water on us!!! The sun was by then setting, so we return the scooter and, after a bit of shopping in the centre, we take the hydrofoil again that takes us back to Playa. Once off, we return to Cancun, again on board our "friend" the colectivo. Once we arrive, we do our shopping at a supermarket and finally manage to buy some Barilla pasta and some Bertolli sauce!!! I couldn't wait to get back to the hotel, finally pasta!!! All of it followed at the end of dinner by a very juicy watermelon…
