My honeymoon was not the height of organisation, in the sense that after seeing the video of my colleague's trip it was love at first sight, and so I just had to copy the whole thing. I could call it the Royal Porto Real in Playa del Carmen, a 5-star Luxury hotel where everything is allowed if you are a guest and every wish of yours is a command. I know it would seem a holiday for lazybones, 15 days in a hotel served and waited on hand and foot, but no, even I, in my own small way, did a couple of excursions around the Yucatan. Meanwhile Playa del Carmen is a purely touristy little town, but I am sure you will have read a great deal about it on this site; the only thing I would like to add is that I would call it a Lego little town in the sense that it is dismantled and reassembled every year because of hurricanes. Indeed the hotels change and are updated every year.
As for our hotel, it really was a paradise, in the centre of Playa del Carmen, 30 seconds from Chinta Avenida, the main pedestrian street. Everything free: food and drink 24 hours a day as you like in 8 restaurants scattered around the hotel, free cocktails always and as many as you want, sauna, gym, beach beds (real canopy beds with mattress and pillows included). PARADISE........... Anyway for more information about the hotel just contact me. My excursions were to Tulum, beautiful and for me the most beautiful; the town is not big but it is a summary of the Yucatan peninsula: white beach and clear sea, ruins immersed in greenery, palms and iguanas everywhere popping out at you by surprise. Then I reached the town of Coba, immersed in the jungle.
Here the ruins certainly present themselves in a more grandiose form: the pyramid with 124 steps is the second tallest in the Mayan world; we climbed it and the view repaid the effort; then we find two large Pelote courts, that is, what we today would call stadiums, where precisely the game of Pelota was played. Finally our last excursion was to the town of Cancun by night, a miniature Las Vegas but I think much more boring were it not for some discos including the beautiful and unmissable COCO BONGO, disco and show, a mix of dance and live shows in Broadway style, with trapeze artists and lookalikes of every kind from Madonna to M. Jackson and many others singing their own songs complete with dancers and stage sets.
The possible excursions are many others but these are the ones we chose, few but good, also because we preferred to make the most of the gastronomic and tourist wonders of our mega hotel. We ate like pigs, to make up for the 5000 euros of the trip..... The sea in my opinion was a disappointment, but it is also true that I compare it to our Sicilian sea, where I live, and so it comes out a bit diminished. Perhaps the beaches are certainly particular with sand that looks like talcum powder; the most beautiful was the beach of Tulum, but not the one in front of the ruins, but the one in town, they call it Paradise Beach and they are not wrong. Ask a taxi driver and they will take you.
Speaking of taxi drivers, if you travel alone or as a couple maybe it is still not worth it, but if you are already two or more couples always move by taxi, it is more comfortable and above all you can negotiate the price to death........... Guys, for further information just contact me. Bye
