Honeymoon... first time outside Europe... well, a real spectacle!! We stayed at the Merril's Resort in Negril. All-inclusive. Cost 1450 euros each. Negril beach is spectacular, blindingly white sand, almond trees shading the "poor" tourists who can't stand the hot Caribbean sun, and a sea with a thousand shades of blue and green.. The island is quite expensive, the sore point being the Jamaicans!!!!!!! You can't even take a simple walk on the beach towel because you're stopped constantly (and I'm not exaggerating) by these guys, who after the introductions and the ritual lines "how long have you been here?" "where are you staying?" "do you like Jamaica" etc etc inevitably all end up selling you something, from the sea trip to bracelets to marijuana....
Consider being stopped every 2 metres and held up for 7 minutes per person, and in the end you give up on your walk!!! An excursion you absolutely must do is the one to Ocho Rios... a very fun trek among the rocks and water (but very very easy). Then we saw in a factory how rum is distilled, which according to the Jamaicans is better than the Cuban one (I don't drink so I can't judge). We got to Nine Miles to see Bob Marley's house, almost turned into a shrine, and then of course we saw a marijuana plantation, which here reigns supreme. A crossing of the Black River, in close contact with the crocodiles... A gospel mass on Sunday morning, all the faithful dressed in their Sunday best, almost like being in a film..
The island is big and there are many excursions to do depending on your tastes, Jamaica is an explosion of nature and colour, absolutely worth seeing!! As for the beach boys, arm yourself with endless patience.... here the pace of life is very very slow, so no problem man!!!
