10 hours of flight to reach the Caribbean beaches of the Dominican Republic, surrounded in September by the so-called hurricanes!! While Fabian, Henry and Isabel circled around us, we admired the coral reefs and ate like gluttons in the all-inclusive hotel of the Barcelo hotel chain... Little chance of leaving the resort for safety reasons (we had armed guards on the beach and at the entrance gate!). Spectacular excursions to the nearby islands but very expensive and unfortunately in September populated by relentless killer mosquitoes!! We stayed for 15 days at the Barcelo Ocean Village hotel, 4 stars all inclusive at the total price of 3000 euros.

There are 3 restaurants in the whole resort with free access, which means we could have breakfast in one of them and then go into another and have breakfast again, and so on.....the same for lunch and dinner!! I distinctly remember that someone even had the courage to eat the pizza served by the pool around 5 in the afternoon!

TRIPS

THE VARIOUS ORGANISED TRIPS ARE PAYABLE, VERY EXPENSIVE, BUT ALMOST ALL WORTH DOING FOR THE BEAUTY OF THE PLACES THEY VISIT. IT IS POSSIBLE TO DRIVE THE QUAD, A FOUR-WHEELED MOTORCYCLE, ON DESERTED BEACHES AND THROUGH THE FOREST; VISIT STUNNING ISLANDS AND RIDE HORSES ON PLEASANT ROUTES; SAIL ON THE RIVER WHERE THE FILM APOCALYPSE NOW WAS SHOT (FULL OF MOSQUITOES!). VERY USEFUL, IN CASE YOU HADN'T GUESSED, AN INSECT REPELLENT IN INDUSTRIAL QUANTITIES!
