The story

CubAvventura - Adventure Trip to Cuba organised by Catamaranocaraibi.com On 5 January we set off. Flight from Italy - Habana Meet-up of the participants at Rome Fiumicino international airport for check-in on the scheduled Air Europa flight, with a stopover planned in Madrid. Arrival at la Habana international airport, handling of baggage reclaim and entry visa. Bus transfer to l'Habana to the hotel. Check-in, accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.

2Habana (170km) Pinar del Rio (25km) Vinales

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Vinales/Pinar del Rio, the westernmost province of Cuba, where the best tobacco in the world is grown. Visit to a tobacco factory and to the veguero's house, where you can learn about the tobacco-growing process. Continuation of the journey to Valle de Viñales, a valley of incredible beauty surrounded by the “mogotes”, rocky massifs with vertical walls and rounded peaks, considered the oldest rock formations in Cuba. Horse ride through the tobacco plantation with a tasting of cigars and Ron. Stop at the mural de la Prehistoria. Accommodation in Case Particular, dinner and overnight stay.

3LA HABANA

Early breakfast and return to la Habana, to go and discover the Cuban capital, its architecture and its neighbourhoods overlooking the ocean. A day to spend among the Cuban alleys! Dinner and overnight stay in Havana and then, for those who want it, free rein to the Habanera night! 4. Habana (100km) Matanzas Breakfast service until late morning. Free time to enjoy the first sun in the Cuban capital, the most romantically cursed city in the Caribbean, with its endless seafront, the 1950s Cadillacs that keep speeding by even though held together with water-heater parts, the faces, the Rum and again the Music. Walking around l'Habana is not like reading Hemingway... it is living one of his stories. In the afternoon bus transfer to Matanzas, accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.

5Matanzas (280km) Remedios

In the morning visit to this quiet Cuban town, also known as the “Athens of Cuba” with its colonial buildings, parks, cathedral and above all with its music (Matanzas is famous for its Rumba performances) and the little contradictions of this decidedly “spartan” “Athens”. In the afternoon departure for San Miguel de los Banos, once a renowned holiday resort known for its thermal baths and today a ghost Montecarlo, fascinating in its total state of abandonment, where you can rummage among the ruins or take a few thousand photos in a post-apocalyptic setting that not even the best Hollywood set designer could reproduce. In the evening arrival in Remedios, accommodation and dinner in Case Particular and an evening in this quiet village where we can taste a good Mojito or learn the first steps of salsa at the house of music.

6Remedios (50 km) Santa Clara

In the morning a stroll to discover the hidden corners of Remedios, a few souvenirs in the main square and then departure towards the historic sites of the Revolution. Santa Clara is Che's city, an open-air history book, from the Mausoleum to the “Tren blindado”, the heart of the Cuban revolution. In the evening Santa Clara transforms, its clubs, music everywhere, one of the most worldly university cities in Cuba. Accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.

7Santa Cara (150 km) Paya Giron (170km) Trinidad

In the morning departure for Playa Giron, the “Bay of Pigs”, site of the attempted anti-Castro landing, where we spend a few hours between the sea, sunbathing and plenty of relaxation. We continue in the early afternoon to Trinidad, a reality as fascinating as it is magical, as well as a Unesco Heritage site. We will visit the Plaza Mayor, the Museo Romántico, the Church of the Santísima Trinidad; losing ourselves at will among hidden corners and sipping a Pina Colada at the bar la Canchánchara. In the evening it will be impossible to resist the temptations of the incredible vitality and rhythm of this unique corner of Cuba! Accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.

8Trinidad (85km) Cienfuegos - Saturday, Boarding the catamaran

Breakfast and free morning in Trinidad, to fully appreciate its cheerful, peaceful atmosphere of a town outside of time. 14:00 Transfer to Cienfuegos, a town of art in the southern part of the island, 15:00 arrival at the Marina for the boarding procedures and accommodation on the catamaran. Overnight on the catamaran moored at the Cienfuegos marina.

In catamaran among atolls and coral reef: archipelago of Cayo Largo 9. Sunday, a day of sea and sailing, Cayo Guano At first light breakfast and ready to set sail from the Bay of Cienfuegos, sailing towards Cayo Guano (about 7 hours) while we have lunch and fish underway. We will arrive in the late afternoon at Cayo Guano where we will swim and relax and can unwind and dine on board under the Stars of Cuba.

10Monday, a day of sea and sailing, Cayos De Dios

After breakfast we can set sail for Cayo De Dios, which we will reach in an hour. On this island we will find a beautiful coral reef teeming with fish and lobsters...the ideal place for snorkelling and fishing. After stops and relaxation also at Cayo Sal, we will sail towards the tip of Cayo Largo as far as the Marina of Cayo Largo. Night in the Marina at Cayo Largo, a Mojito or a Cuba Libre.

11Tuesday, a day of sea and sailing, Cayo largo del Sur

Cayo Largo del Sur: 25 kilometres long, 3 wide; 37.5 square kilometres of surface in the Los Canareos archipelago. It is the ideal place for those who love the sea and nature, a true tropical paradise of fine sand like talcum powder, sunshine and pleasantly warm, clear, blue water. The most beautiful beach on Cayo Largo is the wide playa Sirena, a 2 km stretch of white sand protected by the coral reef and sheltered from the wind and waves — it is in fact characterised by calm sea all year round. Night in the Marina at Cayo Largo or at anchor at Playa Sirena or in another of the beautiful bays of Cayo Largo.

12Wednesday, a day of sea and sailing, Playa Paraiso

After waking up in the Marina of Cayo Largo we will set off again to see Playa Paraiso, a very isolated and discreet beach where you can practise nudism and naturism. During the day it is possible to reach Cayo del Rosario and Cayo Rico, located between Cayo Largo and Isla de la Juventud, with a boat trip. Cayo Iguana, to the north, is home to hundreds of iguanas. Night in the Marina at Cayo Largo.

13Thursday, a day of sea and sailing, Cayo Ingles

Breakfast and sailing towards Cayo Ingles (5 hours), lunch on board, swimming and relaxation in the wild coral reef of Cayo Ingles. In the afternoon we will sail towards Cayo Guano: a night of Stars!

14. 11/01/2013 Friday, a day of sea and sailing, Cayo Guano, Cienfuegos Breakfast and a dip at Cayo Guano, sailing towards Cienfuegos (8 hours), another swim and relaxation. Return to the Marina at Cienfuegos for the last evening in good cheer; overnight in the marina at the Yathing Club of Cienfuegos.

15Saturday, Disembarkation and return flight to Italy

Breakfast and disembarkation by 09:30/10:30. Transfer by private bus from the Cienfuegos marina to the international airport, or on request to Havana.
