The story

03.02.2012 Cu Chi (VIETNAM)

The famous Viet Cong tunnels. Our guide explains, recounts and narrates using ways that are a bit too irritating for me… he shows the Viet Cong traps almost as if he were telling a joke, he talks about deaths, about air bombardments, about napalm with such naturalness that inside I think: “What the hell can this twenty-year-old know about war and suffering”. For five minutes we live the experience of slipping into one of the many tunnels… what an impression! On returning to Ho Chi Minh City we decide to stop at the notorious “War Remnants Museum”. Two floors showed photos and relics of those terrible years… Our souls and our hearts in these last days have often been severely tested…

05.02.2012 Nha Trang (VIETNAM)

[Stefy]: “I think I'll remember this hard overnight bus transfer for a long time. The driver of our old bus drove in a truly dangerous way. Fortunately we arrive at our destination safe and sound around 6.30 in the morning, our guest house is very close to the sea and looks very nice. Finally a bit of relaxation. It was really needed! Today in fact we stayed lazing on the beach doing absolutely nothing except watching, like children, the big waves that the sea offered as a spectacle!”

08.02.2012 Nha Trang (VIETNAM)

Thank you Nha Trang. This stop was supposed to get us back on our feet and I'd say it did its job splendidly. If I think of this little town I only remember the delicious breakfasts of tropical fruit in the morning, the whole days spent basking in the sun reading a good book, the swims in this inviting sea, the walks along the festive avenues!

09.02.2012 Hoi An (VIETNAM)

Night on the bus and at dawn here we are in this little jewel of Vietnam. Even though it's only seven we decide to take a little tour of the centre… it's early but everything is already bustling, elderly people doing “tai chi” inside the courtyard of a Chinese pagoda, the first children who, in snow-white uniforms, cycle to school. This is the period of “tet”, the Chinese New Year and all the little alleys are decorated with colourful garlands and ideograms! Everywhere you breathe an air of times gone by, it seems that here the calendar stopped 150 years ago. An unreal silence and peace reigns broken only by the gush of water flowing under the many little bridges that characterise Hoi An.

10.02.2012 Hoi An (VIETNAM)

As we wandered around the centre our attention is caught by a little van with a megaphone that attracts crowds of celebrating children. Shortly after a pick-up passes with a bear dressed as a woman on board, then another with a strongman wrapped in two giant boas… the circus is in town! We can't miss this event. At 8 in the evening, punctual, like two children we find ourselves in a large open-air arena together with thousands of people… Fire-eaters, acrobats, clowns, trained little dogs, jugglers liven up the big evening!

11.02.2012 Hué (VIETNAM)

[Stefy]: “It was interesting to cross the gates of the citadel of Hué. The pagodas among mandarin trees and bonsai, a majestic castle that showed the signs of ancient splendours! At the Pho Sai Gon Restaurant we eat an excellent soup and very tasty noodles! We taste for the first time the “dumplings”, little breadcrumb parcels filled with meat!”
