After three hours and twenty minutes of flight, we land, among the skyscrapers, in an astonishing bay full of ships: we are in beautiful Singapore! I don't know why but I've always been fascinated by this small city-state.
For the first time at the airport we are not alone! Waiting for us is our local contact, the wonderful: Dazzle! From the very first moment she proves to be a special person! She offers us hospitality, takes us around, introduces us to her friends and we end up eating in the famous “Lai Huat Seafood Restaurant”, all fish-based; excellent above all its flagship dish: the “mee goreng”, a sort of seafood soy spaghetti! Soon, in the company of the Australian Jordie, we reach a big Mall to taste many different types of milkshakes… We chat for a long time and have a lot of laughs… It's time to go home and in 40 seconds of lift we reach the 30th floor of this majestic building to admire the spectacle of Singapore by night.

Orchard Road, the street of shopping and big brands as well as shopping centres. It's incredible when you stop to study the map of the city and see it dotted with red dots each indicating a different shopping centre! They are everywhere, towering high in the sky and plunging deep to connect with those around them like a series of roots and tunnels! In Singapore there is a real “parallel life”, the “underground” one! Underground you move from one point of the city to another with fast and ultra-modern trains; underground you stroll with your friends losing track of time; underground you have breakfast, lunch, dinner or eat a snack; you go underground if you want to go to the cinema or have to pay a bill at the post office, or if you're looking for a hairdresser or need to do your shopping; it doesn't matter if it's 40° outside: underground it's very cool; it doesn't matter if outside it's
pouring or snowing: underground you're nice and warm… this thing is scary!

[Stefania]: “A gigantic dragon opens the doors of Chinatown for us. We wander through the little streets still decorated for the Chinese New Year that has just passed. Along the road towards the Asia Civilization Museum we are enchanted admiring the skyscrapers around us. We spend the whole day discovering this such unusual city until, in the late afternoon, we meet our friends Dazzle and Jordie for a drink at the highest point of Singapore!”

[Stefania]: “Today we dedicate ourselves to Arab Street with the beautiful Sultan Mosque and its markets of fabrics and carpets, then ending up in Little India… what memories… women dressed in colourful saris and fragrant garlands in their hair; along the streets: loud music from some Bollywood film, strong smells of spices, little restaurants with dishes now so familiar to us. In a supermarket Mark struck up a conversation with some Sikh boys from Punjab after one of them had noticed his Sikh bracelet! We couldn't not stop to drink a chai on the street accompanied by a bit of naan bread before reaching the “Shri Lakshminarayan” temple… what a thrill to cross that stone entrance and be wrapped in the scent of incense and flowers, in the rites of the women praying to Ganesh or Vishnu. It's time to go home to pack our backpacks, tomorrow morning we set off again!”
