The story

Of the 7,000-plus islands that make up the Philippines, Boracay is without doubt the most celebrated and the best known. It's ideal for those who want to enjoy both the beauty of a stunning sea (especially for divers) and the nightlife of the countless bars and restaurants found all along the main beach (White Beach).

Tourism has developed a great deal in recent years, thanks also to the strong Asian influx (Koreans and Japanese above all), so you can find accommodation both in classic luxury five-star hotels (from 100 to 150 euros a night: pool, spa, concrete buildings) and in bungalows built of bamboo (30 euros).

There are many activities to enjoy: scuba diving and snorkelling in particular, but also windsurfing, parasailing, water skiing, jet skiing and the unmissable boat tour (much better to hire one and go wandering on your own).

One of its peculiarities is the constant wind blowing from the east, which keeps the sea on the western side always calm and also makes the eastern beach a paradise for kite surfers.

Even those who play golf can try their hand at a regular 18-hole course (par 72), while the more romantic (and the lazy) will appreciate the sunsets on the beach more...

In short, there's something for every taste, except for those looking for an unspoilt place; in that case Boracay isn't really ideal, better other destinations, such as Palawan for example (which is on my list of future trips:)

A final piece of advice: to get from Manila to Boracay you can choose Caticlan or Kalibo airport. Caticlan is a smaller airport (so smaller planes) but much closer; if you fly to Kalibo (bigger airport and planes) you have to add 2 hours by coach before reaching Caticlan and taking the ferry to Boracay. Caticlan is absolutely preferable!!! Flaminio Bizzotti
