0. 12. 2011 Yangoon (MYANMAR)
Lying comfortably on huge sofas, we wait for our Air Asia Airbus 320 at Bangkok international airport, ready to reach the former Burmese capital!
From afar, like Ulysses with the sirens, we're drawn by the great golden pagoda of Shwedagon; here we are wandering around this little religious village made up only of temples, many places of prayer where faithful pilgrims from all over the country prayed and entrusted their hopes and wishes to the thousand Buddhas present here and there.
Some local young people advise us to visit, in a temple not far away, the "reclining Buddha statue"... Half an hour later, gazing upwards with our mouths open, we admire this immense work of art. We even have to climb onto a pedestal to get a full view of the sculpture.
We meet an old man who invites us to visit the area inhabited by the Buddhist monks… a place outside time…

We're ready to leave the old capital; we go to relax a little on the shores of Lake Inle in the company of a friendly Malaysian-Chinese man named Yee.
We cross small villages with sparse houses, the occasional pagoda pops up here and there now and then, the rest is made up of endless rice fields that frame the surrounding landscape.
13. 12. 2011 Nyaung Shwe (MYANMAR)
Outside it's pitch dark when the driver shakes me awake, telling us we've arrived at the Junction for Lake Inle. It's 5.10 in the morning and we're about a dozen km from our destination. Seven of us get off the bus (the three of us, a Sardinian who lives in London, two German women and a Frenchman); we get onto the only available pick-up and continue to Nyaung Shwe, a small village near the lake.
We stay at the "Gipsy Inn" and from the balcony of our humble room I'm enchanted watching their everyday life unfold. It seems like a film!
