The story

Hong Kong! The two faces of this former British colony look at each other from one shore to the other across the channel... Hong Kong Island and Kowloon on the mainland. In the past the difference between the two was probably far more marked; today Kowloon, too, is beginning to fill up with skyscrapers. Yet the Oriental flavour of the most popular districts remains intact: the market, its shops full of food I had never seen before (but was it food?), the little carts, the assorted chinoiserie...
