Day 210 Aug 2003

Johannesburg-Graskop

As soon as we arrive at the airport we head to the Avis desk to pick up our car, a Polo sedan never seen in Italy... given the stories that are told about Jo'Burg we decide to set off for Graskop. The landscape is fantastic, you see kilometres and kilometres of very straight roads, you really risk falling asleep at the wheel!!!! we encounter exceptional landscapes from desolate plains to very green coniferous forests (!!!!), our stop is Graskop or rather the Mogodi Lodge...excellent!!!!.

Day 311 Aug 2003

Graskop-Kruger Park (Letaba)

This morning we wake up very early and after a nice home-style breakfast we set off, we have the whole Blyde River Canyon to see. In order we see the Mac-Mac Falls, the Berlin Falls, the spectacular Berlin Falls, all waterfalls each more beautiful than the last. We stop to admire the Pinnacle, this rock formation that rises from the canyon and a few km further on we tackle a short walk to the God and Wonder view where we can admire one of the most beautiful panoramas seen in my life, a plain that is lost on the horizon, truly exciting. Afterwards we visit (with a small detour) the three rondavels, these three mountains shaped like Zulu huts that rise above the Blyde River. Next stop are the Bourke's Luck Potholes, strange circular formations created by the erosion resulting from the meeting of two rivers...not bad.

when planning your trip consider the countless stops to be made to buy countless items at the numerous little markets (present along the road throughout Mpumalanga) where extraordinary craftsmen proudly show their works of art. Obviously too many things for a single day and we cannot manage to enter the Kruger so we stop at a makeshift motel just outside Letaba.
