The story

If you want to know more or see all the photos, visit:

06 December Springbok (SOUTH AFRICA)

Fish River Canyon. The second largest canyon in the world after the Grand Canyon.

We drive a couple of km along the ridge and stand enchanted and amazed before such majesty. It really feels like seeing the bones of Planet Earth…

Not far away we stop at Noordoewer, the border between these two nations; the paperwork is slow but, once we enter Mandela's country, the landscape changes dramatically. Instead of arid rocks and desert expanses there are now green vineyards and cultivated fields, even the road is no longer a dusty dirt track but a clean strip of asphalt.

07 December Cape Town (SOUTH AFRICA)

Slowly we approach the gates of the immense city with our tired, dust-covered trucks. Its outskirts are a sea of corrugated-iron shantytowns where even the police cannot go. It is a world apart and it is striking and sad. Fannie says that people from almost all of central and southern Africa live here.

Here we are in Cape Town, we expect a lot from these last days here! We stay at the “Dale Court Guesthouse”, an excellent base just a few steps from the Waterfront, the most touristy area.

We soon lose ourselves in the crowd of tourists, we feel almost disoriented, coming as we do from Namibia, the least populated nation in Africa, we are not used to seeing so many people.

Our trucks look out of place in Cape Town's rush-hour traffic, our safari look is almost strange when we mix with well-dressed, sweet-smelling tourists!

There is a huge Christmas tree in the centre of the Waterfront, lots of brightly lit malls, pubs, nice restaurants, lights, colours, music, street artists… a party everywhere!
