We left with Air Europe an hour late because of the surfboards to load and some fuss from a couple who wanted to get off the plane, triggering the security procedure... we land in Mauritius at 7.30 am!
The weather isn't the best, but we hope it will soon change.
Outside the airport there's Fabio, one of the guys from Asso, waiting for us with a "ASSO TOUR" sign. We wait for another 8 people (Marco and
Nicoletta, Andrea and Valentina, Daniele and Debora, Luca and Sara), whom we immediately bond with and with whom we'll spend the rest of our holiday.
Asso welcomes us with a garland of yellow flowers and a welcome cocktail; they offer us breakfast, we take care of the
registration paperwork and we're transferred to the Hemeraude, a resort a kilometre away, where Asso stays when its own property is full. The evening begins with a Mauritian dinner, adapted for us Italians, and the tour for the following day is already being planned, taking us
into the capital, Port Louis, and the beautiful scenery of the north of the island.
I don't want to tell you too much about the island because it's lovely to discover the details for yourself when you travel. I can tell you that 14 days are needed to get all the way around the island in every direction. The sea is very clear and offers the chance to go snorkelling, especially at "Flic en Flac", where a multitude of corals and fish
await you just a few metres from the shore. Watch out for the sea urchins, whose spines are truly long, and for the scorpion fish.
Don't miss swimming with the dolphins, super exciting.
The island doesn't offer only sea, but a multitude of waterfalls, nature trails, extinct volcanoes, and a must-see "Domaine de
Chasseur", where you can tour the estate on quad bikes and immerse yourself in the wildest nature.
Besides Port Louis, it's worth a trip to Rose Hill, where you can admire Victorian-style buildings and the old
train station, now home to the post office.
If you want more information don't hesitate to write to me, and as for Asso, guys, it's really worth it... and you won't regret it.
