Nanyuki is a small village at the foot of Mount Kenya where there is an orphanage, the... Tumaini Children's Home... It is right here that I spent 16 fabulous days... UNFORGETTABLE... We left Milan around 08.15 heading for London, where we had a stopover before leaving again for Nairobi, where we arrived at 20.00!...our airline was “British Airways”, with which we flew without the slightest problem! Once we arrived we stayed the first night in Nairobi, at the “Flora Hostel”, a hostel for young students, after having dinner at the Ethiopian place “Blue Nile”, where we ate a delicious goat meat! The next morning we set off again aboard the Matatu (a 14-seat minibus) heading for Nanyuki!!!!...about 3 hours of travel, during which we admired extraordinary landscapes! On our arrival at the orphanage we were welcomed by 49 children...
all beautiful!!! They prepared a welcome dance for us and we immediately became friends! These children, all orphans and HIV-positive, adore cuddles, which naturally we had no trouble returning!!! On the very day of our arrival a child of only 9 had died of rubella... The following Friday we went to this little one's funeral... and on the way back we saw this rainbow that seemed drawn!...even that day was special... we certainly did not expect to have to attend a funeral, but this way we saw other aspects of this culture so different from ours, yet which taught us a lot!...on Saturday we went on safari with the children to “SWEETWATERS TENTED CAMP”... elephants, giraffes, rhinos, zebras, gazelles... beautiful!!!! Unfortunately this holiday literally flew by...
but it enriched my heart!...I will certainly never forget these wonderful children!!! It was a beautiful experience, full of emotions... certainly one to live!
