Day 111 Feb 2013

8 YEARS IN KENYA WITH THOMAS TOURS & SAFARIS!

Whoever knows what it means to have Africa Sickness, can well understand what I felt when, for the umpteenth time, I returned to Kenya at the end of October

DON'T WORRY CINZIA This is your Home

This is what they replied from Watamu

When I announced that, if we found a flight at a "decent" price, we would have returned to Kenya!

We have been returning to Kenya and Watamu for 8 years, since way back in August 2006 Over all these years, I have met many tourists who became friends with a simple exchange of emails and useful information for going and above all returning to Kenya in Freedom, buying only a plane ticket and trusting the native people of the place like Thomas Mboya, who has his own safari agency fully compliant in matters of tourism and safety.

Even this time, although contacted at the last moment, Thomas organized:

- Transfer from Mombasa airport to Watamu

- Stay in a beautiful villa in central Watamu, a 2-minute walk from the Mama Lucy shop and the Acquarius resort

- birthday party on the terrace of an African restaurant in central Watamu with a chef under the stars, fish buffet, with the guests (all African) and Thomas's grandchildren with a personalized birthday cake and little songs in 3 languages..UNFORGETTABLE!

- 2-day 1-night safari to the Taita Hills Reserve – Tsavo East Park where we stayed at the SAROVA SALT LICK LODGE, enchanting, on stilts overlooking the park, from where, by creating a pool with continuous water, you can observe at all hours the pilgrimage of all species of animals that come to drink.

Around the ground floor of the reception they have created a sort of tank that runs all around the windowless windows of the lodge This way, sitting on a chair, you feel like you are watching a live documentary.. almost touching entire herds of Elephants big and small, buffaloes etc. that come to drink exactly 2 steps away from you… a marvel!

- Blue safari to Sardinia 2, this time departing by boat from Malindi, to also see the Malindi Marine Park (although we prefer the one in Watamu, it was still worth trying)

Landing on the strips of sand of this beautiful beach in Watamu, nicknamed "Sardinia 2", allowed us to take spectacular photos with breathtaking colors of the sea… Beautiful barbecue with lunch sitting on the boat in the middle of the sea with all the shades of blue everywhere your gaze landed. - excursion to Marafa Hell's Kitchen, the kitchen of the Devil, where the colors of the earth captivate you together with a sunset every time postcard-worthy. - visits to the real villages in the bush, touching, beautiful and instructive, where Thomas acted as interpreter and asked all our questions to the village chiefs to learn and understand…

- dinners with Thomas's grandchildren, who are Anthony 15 years old, Siena 13 years old and Bella 11 years old, whom we have seen grow up, they are studying well, Thomas even though he is the uncle, works a lot to be able to give his orphaned grandchildren a future in Kenya, and we are proud of it!

1 week passed quickly, but the memories of every day spent are more alive than ever…

From October until Today we have been fortunate to take other trips, but every time we left my mind always compared it to a beautiful return to Kenya…It has no equal! IT'S LIKE OUR HOME! Like returning home…

Asante sana Thomas, with your professionalism, but above all with your love for your land you have managed to convey to many families like ours the TRUE AFRICA SICKNESS!

LONG LIVE KENYA! AND ITS PEOPLE!

Jambo Cinzia Paolo and Andrea.
