Last summer I had an experience that was, to say the least, moving and that left me with an indelible memory in my heart. Thanks to knowing a nun from Treviso who has been serving in Peru for 30 years, I stayed in a few small villages 3500 m above sea level, 8 hours from Lima. At first I was in the poor part of Lima visiting the parents of the little girls I later met, who are guests of a particular orphanage, precisely because they are not orphans but removed from their homes as victims of sexual and psychological violence. With the money raised in Italy I bought useful things for these girls, realising as the days went by that they needed something else much more... a lot of affection! Then I was in a nursery school for poor children who freeze to death in the mountains and who walk 2 hours every day to reach school.
Here I helped the nuns at the comedor, a canteen where hundreds of children have lunch every day, which for them is their only meal of the day. At the moment I am helping them with distance adoptions to guarantee their right to education. I also helped some elderly people living in conditions that are impossible to describe in a few lines; I'll leave that to your imagination. I'm writing this short diary for all those who might feel like undertaking a similar journey but haven't yet found the courage. Believe me, you will be repaid for everything... WHERE THERE'S A WILL THERE'S A WAY Children's eyes and smiles give a feeling that can't be compared to any other! For all those who would like to contribute to helping these children, you can write me an email and I will answer all your questions. Thank you from the heart Alessia
