From Argentina to Chile by Daniele Somenzi Giuseppe and I are in Argentina with the car and, passing near Bariloche, we head for the border with Chile, but first we fill up with petrol — apparently it costs less in Argentina. At customs, freezing cold, we are right in the middle of the Andes, with snow all around even though in November it should be summer here. We leave Argentina and for a few kilometres we are in no man's land, until we see the Chilean customs post. Same procedure here too, that is, get out with passports in hand and the car documents, which by the way has Chilean plates. Once the usual forms are filled in, a few minutes and here we are in Chile. We continue among the Andes mountains, then descending down into the valley; the heat increases, thank goodness.
We stop at an airport to ask whether one can fly to Easter Island; we talk to the woman at Lan Chile, who however directs us to Osorno, to the offices where they will give more explanations. After a few hours of back and forth, finally in Osorno they give us the booking, and Giuseppe and I are happy to be going to Easter Island. So we drive up to Santiago, where we sleep one night in a nice hotel near the airport, precisely to be ready the next day for the domestic flight to the island. bye
