The road is a beautiful dirt road and all uphill. We have to reach an altitude of 4,550 meters and we have to cross the border between 2 countries that hate each other because of a war (with Peru too) over access to the sea, which went rather badly for Bolivia. As soon as we arrive in Bolivia, some women in traditional dress, with very long and thick braids, serve us a kind of snack, to better face the altitude and the walks that await us. The sky is without a cloud, the air warm (the wind in icy gusts), the landscape majestic. There are many bushes of yellow straw, like in the Australian outback, called paglia brava. Among the bushes, llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas graze. In Bolivia, Laguna Blanca awaits us, a very salty area, where sometimes the ice of the small lakes blends with the salt, and the legendary Laguna Verde.
I have never seen anything more beautiful in my entire life! Laguna Verde is a kind of lake located at 4,200 meters above sea level, whose color is turquoise like the most perfect of Caribbean seas. The color is due to a microorganism that makes the water, already pure, that color. The lake also has the wave effect of the sea due to the Bora-style winds that blow at those altitudes (guys, scarf, hat, gloves and windproof jacket with fleece, don't forget it!) and blocks of ice floating toward the shore. The splendid untouched mountains, the high plains and the volcanoes that surround this place forgotten by the world, where man has not yet arrived to ruin it, help make the lagoon even more remarkable. I advise you to go there quickly, before they ruin one of the wonders of the world.
