Australia in a flash There are 3 of us and we're travelling around the world. We're in Bali, on a beach, and someone steals my bumbag - even now I don't know how they did it. Well, anyway, I go to the consulate in Bali, where they issue me with a travel document to return to Italy, while the other 2 carry on around the world on their own. So I book, one after another, all the flights on my round-the-world ticket, and luckily all the connections are available: Denpasar, Melbourne, Auckland, Los Angeles, London, Rome. I gave myself an intravenous drip of 32 consecutive hours of flying, and that's without counting the layover hours in the various airports. Anyway, I couldn't wait to leave Indonesia - I don't like Bali anymore.
All three of us fly on a Boeing 767 of the defunct Ansett; we land the next morning in Melbourne, where I say goodbye to the lads, who are spending about ten days in Australia, but I, not having my passport, can't join them. And I wave them off on this side of customs. I wait 6 hours in the international terminal and watch the Qantas planes. It's the first time I've been in Australia and unfortunately I can't visit it - what a pain. I love Australia. If I hadn't been born human I'd surely have been a kangaroo or a platypus. The Air New Zealand flight finally leaves for Auckland. Bye bye Australia trip, the shortest of my life - just 6 hours. Jak.
