A few days of travel in this surprising city. Full of contrasts, with spectacular skyscrapers, Chicago surprises above all for its hospitable people and its shopping and entertainment offerings. Mine was a business trip and so I had few opportunities to enjoy myself, but the offer is incredible: golf, beach, sailing, not to mention the clubs and the chance to take trips out on Lake Michigan. Thanks to the favourable exchange rate (in June 1.50), I have to say that shopping was very convenient, although you always have to add a "pesky" 9% Illinois tax that isn't included in the displayed price... To eat you'll be spoiled for choice, always in search of new tastes and flavours. Everything radiates from Michigan Avenue, the beating heart of the city, where I stayed at the Westin Hotel (magnificent, I must say).
A trip to the Sears Tower (the tallest skyscraper in the States after 9/11) and to Navy Pier, Chicago's harbour, is a must, where you can take wonderful boat trips on the lake, or spend a pleasant evening at the amusement park and the many attractions for young and old alike. To get around, take the metro or a taxi, plentiful and cheap. Unfortunately, be prepared to tip generously... you'll be asked for it more or less explicitly! What can I say: have fun and enjoy Chicago.
