How could you not be charmed by one of the 7 wonders of nature!
Day 12 Aug 2007
Here we are in Arizona
We arrive after about an hour's flight in Phoenix. Here we'll take the shuttle to the rental car area. This little bus takes us to an area not far from the airport where all the rental car companies are located. We booked the car for 5 days with Alamo, and by adding a good sum, we get a higher-category car with an Italian GPS. After picking up the car from the lot, we exit the parking area, and as soon as the satellite locks onto the channel, I enter our destination and....off we go! We almost immediately take the interstate that goes from Phoenix to Flagstaff. Here we stop at a market to stock up and set off again for the Grand Canyon Park. We arrive here from the east side, and after a couple of viewpoints, we enjoy the sunset over this breathtaking scenery. A chasm of exaggerated dimensions divides the two banks of the Colorado, and a thousand colors frame this scenery.
Caught up in the euphoria, we go to book with Grand Canyon Airlines. Afterward, we go to the Best Western hotel in Tusayan, where a nice soft bed awaits us to rest.

Day 23 Aug 2007
A special flight...
We get up around 9:00 AM, and after the buffet breakfast, we leave the hotel to face this new experience. Grand Canyon Airlines is a few hundred meters from the Best Western and boasts of being the first company that started doing scenic flights for Grand Canyon tourists. Having booked the night before, we avoid useless lines and in a few minutes we're in flight. These small airplanes are built just for these types of flights; in fact, they are not very noisy and have wide windows. For each seat, there are also headphones, and by setting the listening language, you can hear the whole narration about the Grand Canyon, from its history to various curiosities. The scenery is incredible, and only from above can you understand how wide this chasm is; every corner of the Grand Canyon seems to have different colors and shades, and with the movement of the sun's rays, the colors change again.
Only when you see it do you realize the magic of this place. After about 50 minutes, we put our feet back on the ground and prepare to head to our next stop: Monument Valley. Along the way, there are new scenic points, and occasionally you come across small Indian villages with souvenir stands.
