The Bryce and Zion parks
...........continues from MeravigliosoWEST2: Arizona...........
After crossing the border with Utah we head north toward Bryce Canyon. Very soon the plateaus and deserts of Arizona give way to mountains and forests, and so we begin to encounter snow. Driving through Red Rock Canyon is truly moving. The red rock contrasts with the snow and the blue of the sky, creating a unique scene. Needless to say, there's no one here, we don't come across any cars, and most of the facilities are closed at this time of year. Once we reach the park we stop at the Visitor Center and continue on, starting to reach all the viewpoints. With the snow, you're not allowed to walk the trails, which are usually open in summer. Even though it's no longer so easy to impress me after the majestic Grand Canyon, the first view of this little marvel enchants me right away. Here too, the silence, the colors and the incredible formations can only leave you breathless.
Once the visit is over we get back on the road heading south. Tonight we'll stay in the Mormon town of St. George. Along the way we make a detour to also visit Zion park. We drive all the way through it, but here we don't regret not having more time. In fact, it will be very interesting geologically, but it's not remotely comparable to its neighbors.
