Johnston Island (Pacific) This is the fourth and last destination I mention despite having only passed through, the others being Pakistan, Mauritius and Qatar. As I said, even though I only passed through, I also list these places as visited by me on the web, because in truth I was there, and because I don't have to prove anything to anyone; this is my own business and that's it. At that moment I was there in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and if someone had asked someone else, but where is Daniele now? the answer would have been, now Daniele is at Johnston Island in the Pacific. That said, I can well say I didn't visit it and didn't see much, but that I wasn't there, absolutely not.
The Aloha Airlines flight coming from Honolulu has to make a stop at this American military atoll to drop off some soldiers who are on leave in turn, and to refuel, since the next leg is three hours' flying to the Marshall Islands. The island, if we can call it that, is as long as the runway, and through the windows you can see all the quarters of the soldiers who work there. Surely the atomic bombs are stored here; you see many strange low buildings that make you think something's bubbling away down there. Anyway, bombs galore, used to resupply the various American submarines and warships, not to mention endless fuel. The words Welcome to Johnston Island apply anyway only to the military, not to us tourists, even though I took the photo of it all the same. A fire truck accompanies us the whole way to the end of the runway.
Here, of civilian aircraft, only Aloha and Continental Airlines land; all the others are obviously military. I also see that hundreds of sea swallows nest on the beach that surrounds the atoll, and no sooner are we airborne, the wonder of the blue and green water like in Polynesia. Here I imagine that the main pastime of the soldiers who have free time is diving among the corals. Bye
