The story

this was my first trip alone... or rather without my parents, because I spent 2 weeks at a college in Reading with other kids from all over Italy. Ancona-London and off to Reading, in a huge college where they put us in single rooms..of course I'm on the top floor and the lift is broken!! I have wonderful memories of this holiday, because it let me spend 14 days on my own in contact with kids my own age, studying the language properly for the first time, but also having fun...actually mostly having fun, since at 15 you think above all about that and little about studying! Reading is a city like mine..almost no monuments, and consequently life goes by fairly quietly..but at the college we had practically everything, and the day went like this: morning at school, in the afternoon after doing the homework for the next day there were plenty of optional recreational activities, so everyone cou

ld basically do whatever they wanted...even though we did almost everything just to be together. In the evening there was usually something organised in the adjoining theatre..I remember that one of these times we put on a terrible fashion show, where they made us dress up as women heheh!! Anyway at the college there were football and basketball pitches, endless lawns and a pool table with a jukebox for rainy days...which, would you believe it, there wasn't even one of, practically a record! We spent a day in Brighton, a famous seaside city, where we had fun at the famous funfair on the seafront..and finally, for a boy born by the sea, to spend a bit of time on the beach! There was also a trip to Oxford to see the famous university...really beautiful although I think now, 11 years later, it must be even better to see..Of course though, we were all waiting for the day of the main trip..Lon

don!! My first and (alas) only time in the capital was truly like being a fish out of water...used to the calm pace of Reading, I struggled to make sense of all the London chaos! Our tour was complete, from Piccadilly to the London Eye, from Westminster to Big Ben, from Tower Bridge to the famous Underground, from the British Museum to Buckingham Palace, from Hyde Park to a ride on the famous double-decker buses...a truly intense day. This was my first time on English soil..and honestly I hope it won't be the last!
